FAQ

Q: How do you keep your prices so low?

A: Simple. We’re a small company with small overhead. That’s really it. We feel our work speaks for itself, so we don’t have the need for a sales department. We rely almost entirely on word-of-mouth marketing from satisfied clients, which not only equates to huge savings for us, but also shows that quality and customer satisfaction are of the utmost importance to us. Our small overhead, non-existent advertising expenses and small number of employees create huge savings we’re able to pass on to our clients, while still affording to produce award-winning designs.

You get the best of both worlds, top notch Web design and reasonable rates. What you won’t get with us is a lot of sales fluff. As a client, you would work directly with our designer for all aspects of the project, thus cutting out the middleman completely. Our philosophy is incredibly simple: quality work + honest pricing = happy clients. And happy clients lead to more happy clients.

Q: I’m not exactly sure what a Web host is. Can you please explain?

A: Just like you may own your own phone but won’t be able to make calls until the phone company hooks your phone to the telephone system, your Web site has to be hooked to the Internet. A Web host is a company that connects your site to the Internet and provides you with server space for your Web site. The server space is where the actual electrons reside that make up your site which includes all of the pages and pictures associated with your Web site. When your site’s Internet address is typed into a browser, the Web host connects your site to the Internet and displays the site’s pages. HUEY Productions provides Web hosting for their clients at an extremely affordable rate as low as $12/month.

Q: Can the place I host my site affect my site’s ranking on the search engines?

A: Absolutely! Make sure your Web host’s server is fast and reliable. If your Web server doesn’t answer a query fast enough when a search engine spider tries to visit your site, your Web pages won’t be listed in the search engine. For that reason, it is important to choose a reliable host that provides fast connect speed. HUEY Productions continually monitors its server to insure the client sites are up and connecting fast to the Internet.

Q: I have been considering hosting my site with a free hosting company, but I’m a little concerned with their reliability. Can you shed some light?

A: NEVER host a commercial Web site with a free hosting service. These services are highly unreliable and could care less if your site goes down. Their main concern is with their advertisers. As long as their ads are up and running, for the most part, they could care less about you or your site. In addition, sites hosted with free services look very unprofessional. If you’ve taken the time to get your own Web site professionally designed and will be getting your own domain name, why would you risk your success and host with a free service? It’s just not worth it.

Q: Can I have music playing in the background?

A: Yes. Just remember, having music playing in the background will slow the loading of that page. If you plan on a page with lots of graphics, we’d discourage having the page load even slower because of background music. We would also discourage music in the background because if your visitor is searching your site during the workday, they may leave your site immediately so their boss doesn’t know they’re surfing the Web.

Q: How do search engines determine who gets listed first?

A: They follow a set of rules, with one of the main rules involving the location and frequency of keywords on a Web page. Call it the location/frequency method, for short. Pages with keywords appearing in the title are assumed to be more relevant than others to the topic. Search engines will also check to see if keywords appear near the top of a Web page, such as in the headline or in the first few paragraphs of text. They assume any page relevant to the topic will mention those words right from the beginning. They use the same rules as your 7th Grade English teacher did when grading your essays.

Q: What are keywords you talk about?

A: How do you think people will search for your Web page? The words you imagine them typing in the search box are your strategic keywords. For example, say you have a page devoted to stamp collecting. Anytime someone types “stamp collecting,” you want your page to be in the top results. Then those are your strategic keywords. Each page will have different strategic keywords reflecting the page’s content. For example, if you have another page about the history of stamps. Then “stamp history” might be your keywords for that page.

Q: I’ve used one word keywords. Is that OK?

A: Your strategic keyword phrases should always be at least two or more words long. On the major search engines, 80% of the people will use two words or more. Usually, too many sites will be relevant for a single word, such as “stamps.” This “competition” means your odds of success are lower. Don’t waste your time fighting the odds. Pick phrases of two or more words, and you’ll have a better shot at success.

Q: Should I have a links page on my Web site?

A: All search engines can determine the popularity of a page by analyzing how many links there are to a site from other sites. Some engines use this as a means to determine which pages they will include in the index. The number and the type of Web sites that link to your site is very important. If you want to get high search engine rankings, try to get as many links from related Web sites as possible. It’s not only important that many other sites link to yours, it’s also important the links are from related sites and that the link text contains keywords related to the keyword phrases for which you want to have high search engine rankings.

Q: Is tax added to the prices you quote?

A: Unfortunately most services involved with Web site construction are subject to tax for Texas residents. There are a few exceptions. For an explanation of what is taxed, and at what rate, click HERE.

Q: “I recently launched a new Web site and submitted it to the search engines, but haven’t received the first visitor. Is there something I’m missing here?”

A: Although launching your Web site and submitting it (or having it submitted) to the search engines is a great start, it is only the first step. Many new Internet entrepreneurs believe all they need to do is launch their Web site and visitors will automatically start scrambling to their site. Unfortunately, it just doesn’t work that way. Driving a steady stream of traffic to your Web site takes a great deal of time and effort. You must develop a strategic marketing plan and continuously work it. The best advice I can offer is this…get your site listed on as many Web sites as you possibly can. The more links you have pointing to your site, the more traffic you’ll receive.

There are many ways you can obtain links to your site:

  • Submit (or have submitted ) your site to the Search Engines and Directories.
  • Exchange links with similar sites.
  • Write articles and allow them to be freely published with your bylines.

We highly recommend you use a combination of the above traffic generating techniques.
